San
Pedro/Lo Pagan is a typically Spanish town with lots of activities,
including water sports such as sailing, wind surfing, jet
skiing, canoeing, fishing, para gliding, water skiing, boat
trips, horse riding, bird watching. San Pedro has a weekly
market held on a Monday and Lo Pagan on Thursdays which offers
leather goods, clothes, locally grown produce, fish, meat,
etc. There are numerous banks, shops, cafes, bars and restaurants
and night clubs.
Next to the long promenade facing the Mar Menor are extensive
beaches such as La Puntica or Villananitos. This watery setting,
combined with the facilities at it´s marina, means you
can relax at the many bars and restaurants.
The local therapeutic mud baths are a particular favourite
as they are said to heal skin complaints and rheumatism. There
is a nature reserve located on the salt lakes. This area is
seen of prime ecological importance, is home to over one hundred
species of bird and is used by migratory flamingos on the
journey to Africa.
The
local area is very flat and lends itself to cycling with dedicated
cycle lanes commonplace. There
are also a number of golf courses close by, Villa Martin,
Las Ramblas, Campoamor, Roda Golf and La Finca are only 15
minutes drive away and not forgetting the championship courses
of La Manga.
Torrevieja
is within a 10 minute drive and is surrounded by salt lakes
which are home to a variety of wildlife including pink flamingos
which are protected within the La Mata nature reserve. The
town has a large marina, fun fair, promenande which is bustling
from early evening with street artists and stalls, a harbour
walk and abundant bars, shops and restaurants.
Going north, Alicante is worth a look as are the many beaches
and bays all along the Costa Blanca and of course Benidorm
is only an hour away with it's vast selection of attractions
including the Terra Mitica theme park, Mundomar sea life attraction
and Aqualandia water park
Located 15 minutes from San Javier (Murcia) and 40 minutes
from Alicante airport.
